On Sat 7th May over one hundred opera houses in twenty-four countries will open their doors to the public as part of European Opera Days. Opera Theatre Company is delighted to be representing Ireland in this initiative, and since the company does not have an opera house of its own, it will instead be welcoming new audiences into the heart of Dublin’s cultural quarter, Temple Bar.

OTC in association with the Irish Landmark Trust, will be hosting three promenade opera performances in the atmospheric Georgian gem 25 Eustace Street.

The theme for European Opera Days 2011 is Young Ears, and the object is to encourage newcomers of all ages to sample the delights of opera. On Saturday 7th May there is a chance to step away from the hustle and bustle of Temple Bar’s busy Markets and delve into a timeless magical world. Built in 1720 at a time when the street was equally famous for its religious nature, as for its bawdy houses and bars, No. 25 Eustace Street is full of character and is the perfect location for this unusual performance.

This delightful escape from the ordinary will feature baritone Nathan Morrison (OTC YAA) as the infamous womaniser, Don Giovanni, in pursuit of Zerlina, played by soprano Anna Brady. These talented young Irish singers will be joined by accompanist Mairead Hurley. Don’t miss the opportunity to get up close to the action. This whirlwind tour through Mozart’s dramatic opera, is guaranteed to captivate both the first time opera goer and the seasoned fan.

Ireland’s National Touring Opera Company, OTC is proud to be celebrating 25 years touring opera in Ireland this year and is pleased to take this opportunity to give something back – free opera performances open to all, not to mention coffee and 25th birthday cake.

Opera Theatre Company would like to take this opportunity to thank all its friends and patrons for their support over the years and would especially like to acknowledge the Arts Council of Ireland for making this production possible.
