Cavalli

Erismena

A Venetian comic opera (with some modern twists)  designed for four landmark Irish churches. Its world of dangerous sexual confusion and self-interest is depicted in lush sound - seven voices combining with period instruments (theorbo, harp, violins, viola de gamba, bass violin, recorder orhan and harpsichord). OTC's first opera by Francesco Cavalli, the great master of the 1650's, is performed in a rare English translation of that period. Erismena was produced specifically for a number of remarkable Irish Church buildings.
