Powder Her Face is a co-production between Northern Ireland Opera and Opera Theatre Company.
In 1963, Britain is rocked by a sensational sex scandal.
A famous aristocratic socialite is plunged into the unforgiving world of tabloid journalism.
How did it come to this - and where will it end?
A worldwide hit since it was first performed, and now a modern classic, Powder Her Face is an acerbic black comedy recounting the sordid affairs and scandalous divorce of the infamous Margaret, Duchess of Argyll. This extraordinary modern opera, is written by Thomas Adès, one of the greatest living composers of the 21st Century.
Directed and designed by the award-winning Antony McDonald (‘One of the wittiest and most visually alert designer-directors around’ - Opera Now) (The Importance of Being Earnest), and with Timothy Redmond conducting, Powder Her Face stars soprano Mary Plazas, as the Duchess, alongside Adrian Dwyer (The Magic Flute 2011/2012), Stephen Richardson and Irish soprano Daire Halpin (Don Giovanni 2016. Orfeo 2012).
